This beginner-level course will cover the science behind social-emotional learning (SEL) and mindfulness and how to weave it into our schools to help teachers put student and educator well-being at the center of the teaching and learning experience—and, in the process, begin creating a kinder, more compassionate world.

More specifically, this course will offer cutting-edge, science-based practices that cultivate:

Kindness and Cooperation in Schools

• Exploring the potential of human beings for kindness, connection, and cooperation and what this means for schools

School Belonging

• Using the science of trust and belonging to help educators support their school community (whether in-person or online)

Educator Self-Care

• Clarifying a personal sense of purpose and building emotional resilience

Student Well-Being and Positive School Climate

• Applying the science of empathy, compassion, and gratitude to foster greater student and school community well-being

SMASH Academy

SMASH Academy is a three-year, intensive and holistic STEM residential college prep program that empowers students to deepen their talents and pursue STEM careers.

SMASH empowers our scholars to be agents of change through a long term project-based learning program to critically analyze problems facing their communities and create STEM based solutions utilizing a design thinking framework.

Eliminating the barriers facing Black, Latinx, and Native American students who have the desire to enter STEM and computing professions has the potential to meet the projected demand for STEM workers in our future workforce, while broadening the economic opportunities of underrepresented communities of color.

Our 3 year, intensive STEM focused college prep program that empowers students to deepen their talents and pursue STEM careers. For 4 – 5 weeks every summer, scholars are immersed in tuition-free studies in partnership with leading universities throughout the country.

MasterClass

 MasterClass is an online education library filled with exclusive courses taught by geniuses in their field. Every course has a series of video lessons – all incredibly high quality and all packed full of genuine insights from the world’s best at what they do. Each course has a theme, with about 20-25 video lessons. They also include digital workbooks and community activities. You can squeeze them in during lunch, on a commute, during a stretch break, or binge them while working out or on the couch!

Classes range anywhere from 2-5 hours and each class is made up of several lessons that range from 5-25 minutes in length – some classes may have longer lessons. You can watch and re-watch at any time.

• Each course has a downloadable PDF workbook to supplement the videos
• Get feedback from fellow students in the MasterClass student groups that you can use to exchange feedback and discuss the lessons.
• Complete classes at your own pace. Your access continues until you cancel your annual membership.
• Download some videos for offline viewing with the iOS app. Stream them all through iOS, Fire TV, and Apple TV apps!
